The opportunity is there for a number of facilities in Chatham-Kent to be the new hosts of solar panels.
After receiving an endorsement from council, the Chatham-Kent Public Utilities Commission headquarters could house nearly 1500 of the panels.
But Chief Building Official Paul Lacina says this doesn't guarantee the structures will be built.
"Most of the time, of all the FIT program resolutions we bring to council, only a handful may be awarded a contract."
But staff continue to monitor buildings that could be up for paneling, because building permits are involved.
"The actual fees the municipality can make off them are minimal. That's because it's just about any upgrades that need to be done on the roof of the building to support the solar panels."
A number of locations, like the CK Civic Centre and Chatham Library, also needed reconfirmed support Monday. That's because the benefit of the endorsement, which provides points towards Ontario's Feed-In Tariff program, can expire.
