Public Health Ends Flu Clinics

A dramatic shift in the way Chatham-Kent residents get flu shots means the health unit won't be offering clinics this year.

Public Health Nurse Brett Goudreau with pharmacies joining the distribution network the clinics had a big decline.

"We are seeing residents going to more accessible points, at pharmacies, their family doctors, and so we have seen the trends decrease in the last four years and that's why we've decided to go a different route," he says. "We do note community providers, family health teams and community health centres will be holding clinics and they will be advertising them to their clients and whomever it is open to."

Since 2011 the number of shots delivered at public health clinics has dropped from 6,600 to 1,500 last year while pharmacies delivered almost 10,000 shots each of the past two years.

The majority of people get their shots from their doctor.
