Thamesville Police Office Closing

Police officers patrolling Thamesville and surrounding area will continue with their regular routes but will be deployed out of the Ridgetown police centre.

Police expect that closing the office in the Thamesville municipal building in the will save about $9,513 per year, mostly in utility and maintenance costs.

Police Chief Gary Conn says the area is not losing any service.

"The Thamesville site was a police deployment centre, not a service centre in the respect that citizens come and file complaints there," he says. "With the new in-car tablet solution their office is in essence their vehicle so there really is really no reason for them to have to come back to that deployment centre."

Conn admits the savings isn't huge but he notes police services are under constant pressure to justify every expense no matter how small.
