The first major construction contract for the new Gordie Howe International Bridge is going to AMICO based out of Oldcastle.
The Windsor Detroit Bridge Authority confirmed the early works contract with AMICO was signed very recently — within the last couple of weeks. The contract is worth $59-million plus HST.
AMICO is being contracted to prepare the site for the Canadian plaza of the bridge. The work includes building a new perimetre access road, drainage, grading and utility relocation.
The WDBA tells BlackburnNews.com the construction would begin "soon" with activity expected to begin sometime next week possibly.
