UPDATE: Mayor Fine After Nearly Collapsing

Mayor Drew Dilkens is at home resting after nearly collapsing at a news conference Thursday morning.

Dilkens says he felt dizzy and had a shortness of breath prior to being taken to hospital.

Doctors performed tests and everything came back fine, he says, with no explaination as to what happened or how it can be avoided in the future.

"It's not normal. It's not something that's ever happened to me before," says Dilkens. "For 43 years I haven't felt that. It was scary for me personally to experience that."

CAO Helga Reidel was by his side when it happened and says he wanted to continue his speech minutes later.

“Norma Coleman, his chief of staff, and I wouldn’t let him do that,” explains Reidel. “Obviously we want to make sure that his health is good, so we did call the emergency responders, and they’re with him now.”

Now, Dilkens says he may take his chief of staff's advice to slow down.

"You don't have to go to everything. Make sure you time time for yourself," he says. "It's important I think to make sure that you have a balance."

Additional testing is scheduled for Dilkens next week to hopefully help determine what happened. The mayor says he'll be at work Friday morning.
