Bain Focusing On Grants At AMO

Essex County Warden Tom Bain is pushing for change in how the province grants money to towns and cities.

Bain is looking to raise issues with the provincial grant system at one of the major municipal meetings on the calendar: the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.

"We're looking to be able to count on grants and know ahead of time what we've got coming so that we as individual municipalities in the county of essex can go ahead and set our budgets," says Bain.

The county warden is also looking to press upon the importance of ensuring the grant system is fair.

"That municipalities that are working hard to get themselves in good financial position are penalized and municipalities that are in poor financial shape get given the grant," says Bain.

The AMO conference runs from Sunday to Wednesday in Niagara Falls.
