CK ATV Laws Being Revised

ATV riders could soon be free to use their vehicles on municipal streets in Chatham-Kent.

With the province opening up ATV bylaws to allow for more open usage, Council is asking staff to revise the municipality's regulations.

East Kent Councillor Steve Pinsonneault motioned for the change. He says CK's laws surrounding ATV's are outdated, with modern vehicles safer than older models. "Back in the 80's and early 90's when they had three-wheelers, people were getting hurt because the design was unsafe. But now ATV's are safer than ever, safer than anything on the road."

Pinsonneault says ATV users will still need to follow rules on speed limits, insurance and license plating. Staff will revise the bylaw and present it for council approval in September.
