A Walpole Island police officer suffered "substantial" injuries after allegedly being assaulted by two brothers on Saturday.
Walpole Island police were trying to arrest a man with an outstanding warrant when police say an altercation began between an officer, the man and his brother.
The Lambton OPP had to be called in to assist.
A 27-year-old Walpole resident has been charged with aggravated assault of an officer, resisting arrest, disarming an officer, assault with a weapon and possession of a controlled substance.
His 20-year-old brother has been charged with aggravated assault, obstructing an officer, choking and disarming an officer.
The two men are in custody pending a July 6 bail hearing in Sarnia.
The injured officer was treated and released from hospital.
