Dilkens Backing Payne While WEEDC Search Begins

Windsor's Mayor isn't buying that a city councillor questioning the Windsor-Essex Economic Development Corporation had anything to do with its CEO stepping down.

Drew Dilkens says it's valid for Hilary Payne to want to know how many jobs the corporation is creating, and believes Sandra Pupatello has thick skin. "This is a lady who has been in senior cabinet and political positions for 14 years. She's weathered political storms a lot worse than a few stories that were written about her since January, so there must be more to it."

Meanwhile WEEDC Board Chair Marty Komsa says he's got a lot of work to do to find Pupatello's replacement. "I think we had about 15 to 20 minutes to discuss this (Pupatello's departure) at our board meeting. The board will be meeting again to come up with a short-term plan and a long-term plan, and I have a personal opinion that I think it's going to be very difficult."

Komsa adds that those meetings will happen within the next two weeks, as Pupatello's last day is July 31.
