Windsor Fire and Rescue Service reports fire suppression work at the Windsor Raceway site has wrapped and asks the public to stay away from the unsafe site.
Police have been frequent visitors to the old Windsor Raceway site over the past month, and that's why they find Wednesday's fire suspicious. The building had been vacant since August 2012 when it closed and is in the process of being demolished.
Staff Sergeant Dave Kiger says most of the calls have been about trespassers, but then last Sunday, there was a theft.
"The construction agency that's been responsible for the demolition of the buildings had one of their excavators stolen, driven off the site," Kiger says. "The foreman actually found it in the forest nearby."
Police can't be certain there's a connection to the fire.
The early Wednesday morning, was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.
