Point Pelee Dr. Sewer Receives Funding

The federal and provincial governments will cover half of the cost of a new sewer line running the length of Point Pelee Dr. in Leamington.

It will cost $8-million to build, with the municipality and residents in the area covering the other half.

Mayor John Paterson says the town would have been ordered to install the sewer, with or without the grant money. "We've had the warnings from the Ministry of Environment on it, so it had to be done. To have the funding from the federal and provincial governments is just huge."

For years septic systems in the area have leaked into Lake Erie. This new sewer will solve that problem.

Construction will begin next spring and be constructed in four phases. They could be completed in two to four years, depending on budget pressures.
