New Equipment For Fitness Trail

Getting fit outdoors has never been easier behind Tecumseh Public School in Chatham.

A fitness trail behind the school now features equipment that's open to both students and members of the public.

Phys. ed. teacher Shane McEvoy says they had started fundraising for a separate project, but had to shut it down because of a few legal issues, so he found a new fitness piece of equipment they could work with

"We have a very big community around here -- there's a lot of kids and a lot of families in this area and access to a gym is hard to get for some of these guys," says McEvoy. "We draw from all different socio-economic groups, so it's a nice way to give it to them."

He says the trail and the equipment are aimed at promoting everyday fitness.

"You don't need to be big and buff, you don't need to be Schwarzenegger," says McEvoy. "You just need to make yourself the healthiest you can be so that you can do what you want when you're older -- you don't need someone helping you along, you can do it yourself."

Municipal workers will maintain the track and the equipment.
