A Chatham man faces a hefty fine after hunting a deer without a licence.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says back in November, a conservation officer inspected an antlered deer hanging at a residence.
He learned the suspect had used archery equipment to kill it a few days early.
Officials say the man pleaded guilty in court on June 24, and will have to pay a $1,250 fine. His hunting licence has also been suspended for one year.
