CK Rolls Out New Garbage Program

Chatham-Kent's new automated garbage system will see residents receive new bins by the fall.

Residents in Chatham will receive the new Progressive Waste bins starting July 6, with outlying towns receving them later this year. The bins will also be free of charge.

Progressive Area Manager George South says the pilot project in Tilbury and Wallaceburg resulted in some changes. "That led us to the two different container sizes: a larger one for families, and smaller ones for singles and seniors that are easier to handle."

The new bin system will be in place for at least the next nine years, when the contract between Progressive and Chatham-Kent ends.
