Garbage Collection Changes Coming

Free garbage toters are coming for residents across Chatham-Kent.

It's not clear when yet, but Progressive Waste Solutions says it's the result of successful pilot projects in Wallaceburg and Tilbury, where residents can keep their toters free of charge.

Director of Public and Government Relations Wes Muir says they've already offered this service in other parts of North America.

"The toters basically only require one person on the collection truck and they can stay in the cab, protected from any distracted drivers possibly running into them," says Muir adding the toters are not mandatory, but the company is strongly encouraging people to use them.

Muir says the company does not anticipate the move to result in any job losses.

The garbage toters are also under warranty for the duration of the garbage collection contract that Progressive has with the municipality.
