An apparent homicide investigation is underway in downtown Windsor after a man was found dead outside with "obvious signs of trauma" to his body.
Windsor police have a large area taped off around 563 Brant St. where the body was found near the alley. Police say two men working on a nearby house discovered the grim scene Thursday morning at around 9:30am.
Public Information Officer Sgt. Matthew D'Asti says the area is expected to remain closed for several hours. "You're going to see a lot of activity here, obviously, we're going to be front-end loading this investigation," says D'Asti. "We'll have detectives on the scene conducting canvasses in the neighbourhood looking for any clues, any evidence, trying to identify witnesses."
Police say they don't know the identity yet and also won't say how he died, as that could compromise the investigation.
Several detectives, dozens of officers, the K-9 Unit and the Emergency Command Unit are on scene. Firefighters also attended with ladders to help officers search rooftops in the area.
Police say a postmortem will likely take place Friday in London.
