Race Car Teaches Plenty (Video)

A race car built by students is teaching them a number of new skills that will pay off when it hits the track at Delaware speedway today.

Transportation technology instructor James Stonehouse says it goes beyond simply working on cars.

"They had to go over all the rules and regulations with a fine-tooth comb so that we don't to anything that will get us disqualified, so they had to be able to research," he says. "They had to learn some geometry because the roll-bar system that is in there you have to figure out where the bars are going to possibly hit, get into physics, then you get into welding.

The car is a entry level class called a "Bone Stock Enduro" and will compete in a special school race Saturday afternoon.

Experienced volunteer drivers will actually race the vehicles not school staff or students.
