Families within the St. Clair Catholic District School Board have joined other parents across the province in removing children from sex-ed classes.
A few parents at Christ the King Catholic School in Wallaceburg are keeping their children at home until next Monday.
One of those parents, Andrea Figueiredo, says parents should play an important role in shaping their child's views of sexuality. "It's up to us as parents to decide when that should be introduced, and when we should be teaching our children about those things. I don't agree with what the government is essentially forcing our children to learn."
Figueiredo agrees that some subjects, like sexting and homosexuality, should be explained, but it needs to be done in the proper context. "I don't want to live under a rock. But as a Catholic school board, we need to present them in a Catholic, Christian way."
Figueiredo acknowledges school officials have worked well with her, respecting the decision to remove her children from the class temporarily.
