CK Staff Examining Urban Wards

Chatham-Kent staff will be determining which fringe neighbourhoods should be included in urban wards.

Chatham-Kent Council has ordered the report for homes on the outskirts of Chatham and Wallaceburg who may technically be part of a rural jurisdiction. Concern has been brought up that, while homes in the outlying areas live in urban centres, they vote for rural councillors.

However, Mayor Randy Hope says this might open up a Pandora's Box into much larger issues. "For instance, what does the community of Dresden have to do with the community of Ridgetown or Tupperville? Yet they may have the same ward representatives. Does it open up that whole conversation?"

The report has to be completed for council debate by the end of June.
