Rail Safety Week

With Rail Safety Week underway, Chatham-Kent police will be educating both motorists and pedestrians about protocol around train tracks.

CN Police Constable Cynthia Stotz says distracted walking has become an increasing problem with the advent of smartphones.

Chatham-Kent Constable Andrew Gaiswinkler adds they'll hold a public information stop at a rail crossing in the area this week. "We'll have information about trespassing, about paying attention to the rail safety crossings and lights. Not to go through lights when they're flashing or go through the wigwags."

In 2014, there were 45 vehicle and 25 pedestrian collisions involving trains in Ontario.
