Emergency Crews Get Powered Cots

Chatham-Kent Fire and Emergency Services will include new powered patient cots in their ambulances.

Eight cots will be furnished in some of the service's 12 ambulances. Motors allow the cot to move up and down on its own, making it easier to put patients into emergency vehicles.

Assistant Chief Al Devillaer says the powered cots are the next evolution in patient safety and transport. "We always look to see what's best for patient comfort, patient safety. We also look out for medic safety, to limit back injuries, and injuries to elbows, knees and shoulders."

The cots cost $143,613.28, which is being provided by the municipality.
