Veterans Affairs Canada is hiring 100 new case workers, but it's unclear whether or not it will benefit anyone in southwestern Ontario.
Essex Conservative MP Jeff Watson says the move means no single case manager will have to handle more than 32 cases, but that's still more than what's currently in Windsor-Essex. "In this region, not long ago, we were talking about 26 cases that needed to be managed, so it might not necessarily translate (to new hires coming to the area), unless veteran demand has gone up."
Case management for the Windsor-Essex region is done in London.
Watson says case workers help veterans with paperwork, which can be complicated, to make sure they end up with the benefits they deserve.
The federal government recently did a parliamentary review of the veterans charter.
