Another stop in Chatham-Kent for one of the two remaining candidates in the Ontario PC leadership race.
Christine Elliott is concerned with the Liberals' latest announcement to sell 60% of Hydro One and use the money for infrastructure projects. "Our energy debt is huge, we need to get that under control in order to be able to bring down people's hydro bills," says Elliott. " I'm hearing horror stories across the province, particularly in northern Ontario last week, where it's becoming almost a heat or eat situation for people on fixed incomes." She feels the province needs a coherent energy policy and to figure out if it would be prudent to sell off part of Hydro One.
On the flip side, Elliott supports the Liberals' decision to sell beer in grocery stores, saying it's what people want, but would have liked to have seen smaller grocery chains and convenience stores included as well, and is opposed to the additional tax on beer.
Elliott made the comments during a stop in Chatham this morning. The 60-year-old and 36-year-old Patrick Brown are the only remaining candidates in the leadership race, with a winner to be announced May 9.
