Port Authority Hopeful About Ferry

There's lots of work to be done if Windsor hopes to see ferry service across the Detroit River this spring and summer.

The Detroit Port Authority is looking to run a trial at the end of May for the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, and again later in the summer during a cross-border conference.

But President of the Windsor Port Authority David Cree says there are many hurdles to jump over with the City of Windsor in the next two months, including setting up customs along the waterfront. "We have to make sure that customs has, although we're talking about a temporary facility, it's still going to have to be something fairly significant in terms of their requirements. So we're going to have to make sure we meet all of their specifications," explains Cree. "It's a fair amount to put together in a fairly short period of time."

Cree says the port authority's been working on this project with its partner across the river for some time, and now that Detroit has funding for vessels, it's increased the feasibility of it.
