Military Investigating Ice Floe Rider

A full military investigation has been launched into a reservist's actions in the St. Clair River over the weekend.

Multiple Canadian and U.S. agencies mobilized in reaction to a report of a man on an ice floe Saturday night.

Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley says London's HMCS Prevost Lieutenant Commander Sean Batte made it clear to him Thursday morning that the navy reserve values the relationship it has with the city and that he considers actions of the ship's company most seriously.

Bradley says 32-year-old Curt Brown has been ordered to attend counselling and a diving trip to Halifax this weekend has been cancelled.

In a letter Thursday afternoon, Lieutenant Commander Batte offered personal apologies to Bradley and the first responders for the risk they were required to assume due to the actions of one of his sailors.

He also made it clear Brown's actions Saturday and again Sunday were not sanctioned by the navy reserve.

Authorities have said no charges will be laid.
