Alcohol Commission Investigates Wine Festival

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario tells BlackburnNews.com it has been actively pursuing the Shores of Erie Wine Festival from a regulatory perspective.

The commission says the investigation launched some time in September, but couldn't say what may have triggered it.

The wine festival had a special occasion permit. Now the commission is looking to see if the conditions of that permit were upheld.

Officials say they haven't determined if any action will be taken; that may still be weeks away.

Amherstburg police has laid 11 charges against the Shores of Erie Wine Festival and Sobeys Amherstburg. In September, 18-year-old Emily Bernauer was killed in a single-vehicle car accident. Police say alcohol and THC (marijuana) were found in her system. Police say texting while driving was also a contributing factor in the accident. The family's lawyer says they are relieved charges after been laid.
