Crews Battle Drifting Snow

Chatham-Kent's public works crews remain busy trying to clear roads of snow.

Manager of Public Works North Dennis Chepeka says drifting snow is the main issue at this point.

"We've been chasing drifts all night. The snow picked up again overnight and we're working on it. We've got crews out. All our plows, all our graders are running," says Chepeka. "I was talking to one of the supervisors and some of the roads, it's an hour, an hour-and-a-half time interval before they're drifted back in. So the wind definitely is an issue. Hopefully it's going to die down later on today and we can get things cleaned up."

Chepeka says in town, crews are focusing on the main roads and will get to side streets when they can.

Meantime, Chatham-Kent police Constable Renee Cowell confirms driving is a real problem. "It absolutely is, in the past 24 hours we've responded to 11 calls for abandoned vehicles and 11 motor vehicle collisions," she says. "Luckily, no one has been seriously injured."
