Paterson Disappointed By City Snub

Leamington Mayor John Paterson is disappointed in the response from Windsor City Council on the OB issue in the town.

The city isn't supporting a resolution calling for the obstetrics unit at Leamington District Memorial Hospital to remain open as it faces potential closure, while every other Essex County municipality has backed the resolution.

"I was simply asking for the mayor of Windsor, the [Windsor City Council] to say 'yeah we agree with everybody else in the county' that that hospital needs to remain open with the OB services in tact," says Paterson. "It's just disappointing. It was a real let down. I really expected to hear a very positive reply from the city on this matter, because we're always so focused on what we're doing regionally and this is a regional situation we've got going here and I just figured we'd get that kind of support."

A short letter from City Clerk Valerie Critchley explains the city does not endorse resolutions from persons, organizations, associations and other municipal governments.
