New Homes Almost Past Red Tape

Final clearance is still needed from administration at the county to allow the first phase of a new 79-lot residential development in Leamington to begin.

The developer has all necessary approvals from Leamington Council, but needs the county to sign off before being able to file for building permits. However, Leamington Manager of Planning Services Danielle Truax calls it encouraging to see the developer ready to go with the first phase.

"That's a good way to kick-start development," says Truax. "Get people noticing that something is going on in that area to see the type of homes that will be constructed in that area and generate the interest for the remainder of those residential lands."

Truax is hoping for a domino effect with the first phase creating more interest and more development not only in the new Destiny Estates subdivision, but in neighbouring residentially zoned land.

"It's a really nice area. It has a lot of amenities. It's close to parks, marinas, walking trails, sidewalks. So, I think once people see that it'll just continue to grow. It's a nice area for development there," says Truax.

The first phase will see three single-detached homes built in the Destiny Estates subdivision, on the north side of Robson Rd., east of Malibu Dr., in Leamington.
