Chatham-Kent-Essex MP Dave Van Kesteren is pointing to the government's financial performance as a highlight in 2014.
He says the federal government is in position to balance the books and move to surplus in the new year.
"This is going to become a reality in the spring. We will have a balanced budget. So, I'm excited about that. I'm excited about the hard work that's taken place and you know the committment and the sacrifices made by Canadians were there, so we should be very proud of that," says Van Kesteren.
The MP goes on to call the commitment of the projected surplus to income splitting a "good news story" for small families in the country despite reservations of the policy from former finance minister, the late Jim Flaherty.
