Fundraising Win For Hospice

The Chatham-Kent Hospice fundraising campaign has exceeded its goal, bringing in nearly $5.8-million.

Campaign Chair John Case says Chatham-Kent is the only community of significant size without a hospice. "So there was a pent up need. And when we started with the educational process, people felt like there is a possibility. And as we launched our campaign, it gained momentum."

The Ursuline Sisters provided a $500,000 contribution to help push the campaign over its $5-million goal. "We had a tremendous undercarriage that gave us the background, the information," says Case. "It had the organization skills. The educational process was just flawless. And once that was out, then the cabinet campaign folks put a strategy in place."

In collaboration with St. Andrew's Residence, the hospice is expected to open in Chatham by the end of 2015.
