Jail Guards Want Better Deal

OPSEU Local 135 President Randy Simpraga is calling for the premier to come to the table with a better offer for corrections officers across the province.

"Start treating us with respect Ms. Wynne, please that's all we ask," says Simpraga, leading a rally outside of Windsor's Southwest Detention Centre on Thursday afternoon.

He says after two years of no pay raises, the union is not prepared to accept a four-year offer from the province without pay increases.

"One of the major sticking points is Liberal mispending, I mean billions [of dollars] are being wasted. Now, they're trying to recoup those tax dollars on the backs of hard working men and women across the province," says Simpraga. "Enough's enough. Show us some respect. Work with us. Don't try and make up for your faults on the back of these hard working men and women."

Simpraga says corrections officers could walk off the job as of January 1, 2015 with their current contract ending on December 31, 2014.
