Letter To Santa Turns Sour

Sending a letter to Santa through Canada Post is supposed to be a jolly experience, but Santa's mistake soured the holiday spirit for one local family.

Every year, Windsor's Jeff Allard and his seven-year-old daughter send a special letter and a list to the north pole. This year, though, a bizarre message was written in blue pen at the bottom of Santa's letter that said: "maybe next year if you have a long list you should use bigger paper."

"She had some questions. Her excitement kind of went south and she wasn't too happy about it," says Allard. "She basically asked why he (Santa) would put that. It was a little bit of a difficult situation."

Allard says his daughter still plans to send a letter to Santa, possibly through something other than Canada Post next year. "We were really upset about it. They (Canada Post) basically said they were going to resend another letter," says Allard. "When I inquired as to how I was supposed to explain another letter, they said it was going to be in the theme of a 'bad elf.' The letter itself is from Santa, not one of his elves, so it'll be interesting."

Canada Post says Santa was having a problem with his glasses and got a new pair. They say a second letter was sent to the girl explaining the situation.
