Hopefully Chatham

The Plymouth Whalers are looking to relocate, and it could be to Chatham.

ESPN The Magazine Senior NHL Writer Craig Custance spoke with Whalers owner Peter Karmanos, who told him that his team's arena has been sold to USA Hockey, and the organization isn't succeeding because of its proximity to Detroit. Custance explains, he's looking at small Canadian markets. "(Karmanos) said small Canadian cities, and I said, 'do you have a short list, or where do things stand?' And he mentioned Chatham as the only one. He said, 'hopefully Chatham.'"

Custance caught up with Karmanos at the NHL Board of Governors meeting in Boca Raton, Florida, as he's also the owner of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The OHL's Brampton Battalion also moved out of a metropolitan area just a season ago, to play in North Bay.
