UPDATE: Wind Warning, Flood Watch (GALLERY)

A Wind Warning from Environment Canada is now ended for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

The warning had been issued with high winds of 60km/h to 70km/h and gusts up to 100km/h expected to whip through the region.

Both regions are also under a special weather statement with cold, windy and wintry conditions returning by Tuesday. Gusts of up to 90km/h may occur in exposed areas.

Rapidly changing weather forecasts caused the Essex Region Conservation Authority to issue a flood watch for the shorelines from Kingsville to Leamington and on Pelee Island.

ERCA's Tim Byrne says it is to ensure municipalities and individuals are ready.

"The forecasts are variable, they seem to be changing within a couple hours of one being issued, so we issued the statement again to advise municipalities and individuals of the potential for standing water," he says. "The system moving through is supposed to pick up significant wind, as it does depending on the strength of the onshore wind and the duration is going to dictate the potential for damaging waves and erosion."

Byrne urges people to clear private catch basins and contact public works in their municipality if municipal catch basins are clogged.

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is cautioning residents that low lying areas may flood, especially as the Thames River rises.
