We Scare Hunger A Success

Ursuline College Chatham believes it's collected 15,000 cans for Outreach for Hunger during its annual Halloween campaign.

Students and teachers were still counting donations Monday afternoon for the majority of Chatham. Outlying collections in Blenheim, Ridgetown, Wallaceburg and Thamesville totalled 5,500 cans.

UCC student Emily Hiltz says the hard work is sure to pay off. "The counting and collecting, it's all part of a big process that will benefit a lot of people." This is the ninth year of the We Scare Hunger campaign. Cassandra Voets says they've become a staple in the community. "A lot of people know that we're coming," says Voets. "Many people have bags ready at the door and they're really happy to see you."

Last year's totals also came in around 15,000 cans. A final tally is expected to be released some time Tuesday.
