Barrel Riding Draws Local Woman

An 18-year-old Chatham-Kent woman who competes in barrel riding events around Ontario recently took part in a major American event.

Amanda Craven represented Ontario and finished fourth in the youth division at the All American Quarter Horse Congress in Ohio.

"It's like a big year-end show, it's the biggest single breed horse show in the world, they have over 35,000 horses show up every year," she says. "I was there through Team Ontario, the show that I ran in was a youth tournament, each state and province sends a team to represent them."

Craven is a first-year agriculture science student at the University of Guelph and competes in rodeos and events across the province but says eventually she'd like a chance to compete in larger venues including the Calgary Stampede.
