Two Wetlands Restored

Union Gas has contributed $10,000 to help refurbish wetlands on private property in the area.

The Curran wetland near Thamesville and the Alliet wetland hear Highgate, are both on private property. Although members of the public won't be able to visit these sites, officials say there will be great benefits to the community.

"Wetlands act as nature's filter," says Greening Partnership Environmental Project Co-ordinator Randall Van Wagner. "They will filter out the nutrients and sediment before it gets to the Thames River." Van Wagner adds that wildlife will be able to use the wetlands as a food source and habitat.

The Greening Partnership is a combined effort from the Municipality of Chatham-Kent, as well as the Upper Thames and St. Clair Regional Conservation Authorities.
