The Royal Canadian Legion started this year's initiative by paying tribut to CAF members recently killed in Canada.
Legion Executives were at the Chatham Civic Centre to sign Books of Condolences for Cpl Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent. Legion Volunteers will now be stationed in spots around the municipality handing out poppies and accepting donations.
[We do it] so that everyone is aware the legion is behind our military wherever they are," says A-3 Commander Valerie Staudt. "It doesn't matter where they've served, they're our guys [and] gals."
This year marks the 100th anniversary of WWI.
