Van Kesteren On Ukraine Crises

Sanctions continue to be imposed on Russia following Sunday’s vote in Crimea to separate from the Ukraine.

Chatham-Kent-Essex MP Dave Van Kesteren has spent some time in Ukraine as part of his work in foreign affairs and says the outcome of Russia’s actions would have been much different just 20 years ago.

“We probably would have seen a major war break out and I’m not convinced that is going to happen,” notes Van Kesteren. “We’re so dependant on each other. How do you make (Russia) make changes when for instance the whole Afghanistan force is fueled by gas from Russia.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper recently stated the results of the referendum are illegitimate.
