Committee Reviewing Claims

A committee has started reviewing claims for compensation for residents living near Landfill #3 in Lakeshore.

The residents filed claims for disturbance and damage for the approximately 1,500 trucks that pass their homes each day dumping clay from the Herb Grey Parkway to the landfill.

General Manager of the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority Eli Maodus says it will probably take the committee another two months to review all of the claims filed for 2012. “Only after that will the committee determine the amount of compensation that they’ll allocate to each of those claims that have qualified. It’s kind of a two step process, reviewing them all and determining which ones qualify and then assigning the compensation amount.”

The Ministry of the Environment set a budget of $25,000 a year for the fund.
