Environment Canada officials say the Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent areas have set a new coldest day on record for the region.
Meteorologist Rob Kuhn says the area saw extreme cold temperatures. “The temperature at Windsor Airport has dropped at least to a – 25.2 C as of a few hours ago. That smashes the previous record of -21.1 C set way back in 1884,” says Kuhn.
Meantime, he says another record will likely fall this afternoon. “A new record low maximum temperature, the coldest high temperature for the date, the previous one that was in affect was -15.6 C set in 1942,” says Kuhn. “We are forecasting a high near -20 C, so that’s going to make this the coldest January 7 on record.”
