Goodwill Industries is opening a centralized recycling centre in Chatham that will serve its Essex-Lambton-Kent district.
The National Rd. facility opens Friday and Director of Marketing and Fund Development Chris Chartrand says three workers from within the organization are moving to the centre, creating openings at other locations.
“This is quite a large facility so we’re looking at a number of opportunities down the road for that space, potentially even partnership opportunities with other not-for-profits,” says Chartrand. “There’s really a number of possibilities as far as job creation goes.”
He says clothing items that are not sellable or haven’t sold after a few weeks are recycled as either industrial rags or bundled and sold to salvage dealers.
