Update On Downtown Rink

Custom Ice Rinks of Burlington will install the skating rink outside the Downtown Chatham Centre.

Mall owner Dan Warrener says the company has a local tie. “They do a lot of installations in southern Ontario. And we also like the fact that company is partially owned by Dave Gagner, who used to be a local Chatham boy that was involved in the NHL.”

Work to remove a couple of trees and a planter box in front of Sears will begin later this week. Warrener says Custom Ice Rinks will have everything installed and ready for use in November.

Warrener says there is no cost to use the rink. He’s also trying to secure some skates to lend to children who don’t own a pair.

Many years ago there was an outdoor rink at the Municipal Centre on King St. They even had hot chocolate you could buy.
