GFO: Scholarship Winner Presents FindingsNovember 29, 2017 5:00pm
Tony Balkwill presented the results of his global study on soil mapping and precision agriculture at the Nuffield Canada Annual meeting in Ottawa.
Tony looked at the challenges of accurately modernizing historical soil type maps into field specific management zones by studying agriculture soils and how they can be a predictor for variable rate farming. He reported on his travels to large grain belts across the world including Canada, the U.S., Europe, and Australia.
Tony won the inaugural Grain Farmers of Ontario sponsored Nuffield Scholarship in 2016. Grain Farmers of Ontario supports the Nuffield Canada scholarship program by sponsoring a recipient
that studies a topic relevant to Ontario grain farmers.
To be considered for the scholarship an individual must be able to demonstrate their study will benefit the Ontario Grains sector. Nuffield Canada has a selection committee in place to screen,
interview and make recommendations for awarding the scholarship.
