GFO: What’s Growing Resource Kits

By Maegan MacKimmie, Communications Coordinator, Internal Focus

Every year, Grain Farmers of Ontario distributes What’s Growing ON resource kits to Ontario classrooms through goodineverygrain.ca.

The What’s Growing ON resource kit includes all of the materials necessary to complete lessons and activities designed to help Ontario school children and their families understand the role grains play in the lives of Ontarians. The free package includes a teacher’s resource kit and parent guides including at-home activities, along with enough planting cups, soil wafers, and seeds for the whole class.

After sending out 10,000 kits last year in record time, we doubled our goal for the 2017-2018 school year: get these kits to 20,000 grade 3 students across Ontario. With the help of social media and some incredibly enthusiastic teachers, we’ve already reached our goal. All of our kits for the school year have already been sent out to rural and urban schools from Windsor to
Ottawa to Sachigo Bay!

Coming up this month, Grain Farmers of Ontario public outreach campaign will be attending the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair From Nov. 3 – 12 and the Gourmet Food and Wine Show from Nov. 16 -19. Stop by the booth to chat with staff.
