West Grey Medical Marijuana Deal

West Grey is partnering with a medical marijuana manufacturer.

The municipality is entering into a partnership with CannAssist Group Inc., or CGI, to explore bringing in a medical marijuana manufacturing facility.

West Grey Mayor Kevin Eccles says council is prioritizing community and economic development.

“Entering into a partnership with CannAssist is a significant step forward in job creation, revenue generation and community building. All of which are directly connected to West Grey’s Action Plan and the goals of council and the community,” said Eccles. “Being one of only five municipalities chosen by CannAssist speaks to how attractive it is to do business in West Grey.”

Under the deal, the municipality would receive royalties from CGI and in return provide land for a production facility. CGI would be responsible to construct and operate a 250,000 sq ft facility.

At least 120 jobs would be created.

“West Grey’s location is quite strategic for CannAssist’s logistics, needs and labour requirements,” said Janice Britton, CGI’s chief executive officer.

A series of public information meetings will be through the project.
