Farmers Urged To Be Aware Of Theft Threat

Farmers have heard a lot about biosecurity over the past few months.

Now it’s an urging from police for them to increase their security against theft.

That follows the theft of four animals from an Atwood area farm over the past couple of weeks.

Two Holstein calves were taken from the farm around the 14th of August.

Two more were taken from the same farm in the early-morning hours of August 24th.

The first two were 100 and 120 pounds.

The last two were heavier – running 150 pounds and about 200 pounds.

Perth OPP say the latest two calves were taken from their individual hutches and probably loaded into a covered pickup truck.

Police are reminding rural property owners – including farmers – that they are especially vulnerable to thefts because of their isolated locations.
