Massive loss of poultry in barn fire

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – About 1,000 chicks have been killed in a barn fire in southwestern Saskatchewan.

The blaze broke out Tuesday evening at the Swift Current Hutterite Colony.

RCMP say the fire burned rapidly and completely destroyed the chicken barn, but no one was injured.

Firefighters and colony members managed to prevent the flames from spreading to other structures.

Police say the fire is not considered suspicious.

The value of the barn and the dead poultry is not immediately known.
