CFFO Says Farmland Preservation Needed

As Ontario continues to modernize its approach to aggregate resources, the CFFO believes there has to be a plan to preserve the best farmland.

The CFFO’s Nathan Stevens says there are ever increasing demands on the natural landscape. ¬†Along with it, competition for housing, employment lands, agriculture land, aggregates, and natural systems.

Stevens says the on-going Aggregate Resource Act consultations are a matter of critical concern for rural Ontario.

The province will be consulting with stakeholders this fall.

Stevens says there is no doubt that the province needs aggregates to provide homes and places to work for more people but officials also have to find ways to be more sustainable in the use of the resources and the stewardship of the land.
